The Permaculture Vegetable Garden at Mas des Figues

Our permaculture vegetable garden is entering the production phase . Alongside the BIO VERITAS FR10 certification of our olive grove for olive oil, we developed this project to create a sustainable balance between our environment and our crops .

A respectful and natural approach

  • Slow and sustainable method: unlike intensive agricultural methods, our approach respects the rhythm of nature and the seasons.

  • Quantities tailored to our needs: no overproduction or unnecessary surplus.

  • Local and diverse plants: crops are chosen to complement and interact with each other, with a strictly seasonal cycle.

  • Harvested at maturity: no artificial forcing, no chemical fertilizers used.

Selection and organization of the plot

  • Proximity to the house to facilitate harvesting

  • Optimized orientation and sunlight

  • Protection against prevailing winds

  • Streamlined watering using drip irrigation and natural mulching

  • Planting at a height where possible to create natural shade for the ground

The plantings are not aligned but organized according to natural companionships, promoting interaction between crops.

Respect for the soil and the ecosystem

  • Raised beds to preserve soil resources

  • Natural succession of plantings: plants at the end of their cycle nourish the following young plants

  • The soil should always be covered to prevent the unwanted growth of plants.

  • The soil is not dug, simply aerated.

  • Supporting the existing ecosystem: insects, beneficial and complementary plants

  • Green waste transformed into compost and reused on site

A living and balanced garden

The vegetable garden at Mas des Figues is a complete ecosystem where every plant, insect, and element of the soil contributes to the health and richness of the whole. It's a conscious choice to cultivate with nature rather than against it, to offer you fresh, healthy, and environmentally friendly produce.
